Old Friends Sometimes Turn Up Famous

June 29, 2007

I move around a lot and don’t make a big effort to stay in touch with people but from time to time I try to find old friends who have stuck with me in spirit by googling them. One in particular, Nick Hooper, a good friend from my Oxford days, is someone I have tried to find from time to time. Never had any luck till last night.

Back in 1984 when I last knew him his ambition was to score movies. He was a fine guitarist, having studied with John Williams, was conducting our little Oxford Chamber Orchestra and was starting to compose some fairly weighty stuff. I was pretty sure his ambition was do-able. So now it turns out he is indeed living up to the ambitions he was making steps toward then. He is scoring HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX.

The problem now is that I’ll probably never find his email address and pretty soon no one will believe me when I say I knew him. But I do have some photos that are going to be worth something on ebay! 🙂 Don’t worry, all G rated.

So I am here to be one of the first to say, “I knew him when…” Shameless what I will do to get people to my blog eh?

Yeah – so shameless, but nonetheless quite nice that you laud your friend’s success. Hope you can reconnect with him! G
